Independent MP Alex Greenwich demonstrates an inconsistent approach. He has his own bill before parliament to ban “gay conversion” that also bans any activity “done with the intention of changing or suppressing the individual’s … gender identity“. Affirmation of a person’s gender identity often leads to harmful irreversible medical interventions (mastectomy, penectomy, and hormonal treatment).

Alex Greenwich has pressured the government to ban conversion practices this year, but is now quoted saying “With just over one week left of Parliament, there is unlikely to be enough time to properly consult survivors”.

We will work to ensure the government will consult with survivors of gender identity medicine, and recognise the harms that the affirmation approach brings to NSW.
